Ginger Jack en CO-IN : een circulair verhaal

Ginger Jack and CO-IN: a circular story

At Ginger Jack, we are quite fans of ginger that keeps on giving.

Because what actually happens to the ginger pulp after we've made our Ginger Jack from it? We certainly don't just throw it away. The story of our ginger doesn't end here.

Together with our local partner CO-IN, we are giving our residual flows a surprising second and third life.

First, we extract essential ginger oil from the ginger pulp via steam distillation, powered by green solar energy. What remains after that? A wonderfully aromatic ginger hydrosol. We use that as the base for our artisanal soap instead of regular water.

And it doesn't stop there, either.

The remaining ginger pulp finds its next destination at a local farm, where it is used as feed for the cows. From ginger waste stream to cow menu. Now that’s Ginger Jack that keeps on working.

And then there's that hand soap...

For our soap, we combine the ginger hydrosol with extra virgin olive oil, turmeric, and wool from CO-IN's alpacas.

Yes. Alpacas. 🦙

The alpacas are shorn every year. Their wool is washed and finely processed to release the natural keratin. That keratin helps create a creamy, silky-soft lather.

Meanwhile, the turmeric provides that beautiful natural golden color. And the extra virgin olive oil forms the soft, nourishing base.

The soap is then hand-poured, left to rest for 48 hours, cut, and stamped at the farm. After that, it is given at least five months to cure.

Why so long?

Because good things sometimes just need a little time. 😉

During the curing process, the water slowly evaporates, making the soap harder, milder, and longer-lasting. The result? A wonderfully soft soap with a rich, creamy lather.

From waste stream to new story

Ginger oil. Ginger hydrosol. Alpaca wool. Olive oil. Turmeric. Solar energy. Recycled water. Everything is given a purpose.

And that is exactly what we at Ginger Jack believe in: wasting as little as possible and getting as much value as possible out of our raw materials.

For us, a residual flow is not the end of the story. It is simply the beginning of the next one.

Together with CO-IN, we turn what remains into something new, something local, and something we stand behind with great enthusiasm.

A small piece of soap or a scented candle, but with a pretty big story.
